In a study published in the journal Science, the tool was more than twice as accurate as doctors on more than 300 rare cases, at a lower cost. It will work with 貝斯以色列女執事醫療中心 to test its ability to triage emergency room patients.

微軟’s model uses a system called an “orchestrator.” Guided by the orchestrator, the AI model first determines what medical history to ask patients about and which physical examination findings are significant.
The study lead said the model continuously updates its current diagnostic hypotheses and treatment plan throughout the process.
Researchers had the model, which uses a diagnostic orchestrator, handle more than 300 extremely rare and difficult-to-diagnose medical cases.
When researchers tested the tool using case scenarios from a large emergency department database, it also outperformed human doctors.
Dr. Dominic King, corporate vice president of 微軟’s AI Health division, which developed the new technology, said, “No patient comes to see me with a neatly organized summary of their condition.”
Researchers also found that the cost of having the orchestrator plan the diagnostic process was lower than the cost of having human doctors arrange the relevant tests.
Harsha Nori, head of 微軟’s AI Health division, said, “We measure not only the system’s accuracy, but also whether it uses resources carefully and judiciously during the diagnostic process.”
