The Labor Ministry clarified that the claim that employers must support the entire families of pregnant migrant workers is misinformation, and confirmed that domestic migrant workers are entitled to unpaid maternity leave and protection from dismissal. To address staffing gaps, the government provides about NT$2 billion for respite care services.
Facts
As of August 2026, Taiwan had brought in about 910,400 migrant workers, including about 230,500 domestic caregivers.
Domestic migrant workers are not covered by the Labor Standards Act or the Employment Insurance Act. They can only apply for unpaid maternity leave and are not eligible for childcare leave allowances.
The government has set aside about NT$2 billion for respite care and short-term care services, totaling about 52 days a year.
The Labor Ministry issued a clarification saying the claim that “employers of pregnant migrant workers must support their entire families” is seriously inaccurate.
If a migrant worker is unable to perform the job, an employer can seek help from an agency to facilitate communication, and the employer and worker can mutually agree to terminate the contract.

Facts
The Ocean Affairs Council held the “2026 International Conference on Coastal Security” on the 14th. Retired four-star U.S. Navy Adm. Blair delivered the keynote speech by video.
Blair said China's gray-zone harassment operations were devised by an army unfamiliar with the maritime environment, applying land-warfare concepts to the sea.
Blair compared China's strategy to medieval European sieges, but said the nature of the maritime environment means a blockade cannot be extended to city walls or leave permanent traces.
Blair advised Taiwan to respond to Chinese harassment with greater ingenuity and creativity, keeping China constantly guessing about its next move and avoiding the exhaustion of its own resources.
Blair cited the Philippines' South China Sea arbitration case as an example, advising Taiwan to actively wage an international public-opinion campaign and expose China's illegal actions.

台灣中油 urges drivers to stop refueling when the pump nozzle clicks off and not to force a full tank, to prevent harmful gases from escaping. It also released a “3 don’ts and 2 do’s” maintenance guide covering fuel storage, additive use, when to refuel, and engine oil selection, with the aim of extending vehicle life and cutting fuel costs.
Facts
Forcing more fuel into the tank after the nozzle clicks off can cause total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) emissions to surge by about 3,500 to 5,500 ppbv.
Gasoline should generally not be stored for more than 3 months; storage time should be shorter in hot environments.
Drivers are advised to refuel as soon as possible when the fuel gauge drops to the 1/4 mark.
CPC offers the expert view that “refueling before nightfall is better than refueling the next morning.”
The difference could be around 60-70 yuan for a motorcycle and about 150-300 yuan for a truck.
Your parents have paid medical insurance premiums for 10 years, but received no payout after falling ill and undergoing surgery? Check these “3 types of coverage” in their old policies before hospitalization so years of premiums aren’t wasted
Published ・ Source Taiwan | 風傳媒
Nutritionist Su Zheyong says older medical insurance policies may leave coverage invalid or insufficient in old age because of renewal age limits, often 75, and differences in benefit structures. Policyholders should check the renewal age, the distinction between fixed benefits and reimbursement coverage, and what outpatient and out-of-pocket expenses are covered.
Facts
Older policies often set the maximum renewal age at 75, but as people live longer, policies designed in the past can no longer keep up with modern needs.
Fixed benefits are paid according to the amount specified in the policy and do not increase with actual medical expenses. For example, if a cesarean section costs a total of 100,000 yuan and the policy provides 30,000 yuan, the payout will be 30,000 yuan.
Medical expense reimbursement insurance generally covers items such as room charges, surgery fees, and medical expenses, but each type of benefit has a set limit; it does not provide unlimited reimbursement across all categories.
Some surgeries do not require hospitalization, such as hemorrhoid surgery or other outpatient procedures. If an old policy only provides benefits related to hospitalization, it may not cover outpatient surgery.
