Sell any of 3 types of homes and you may pay less tax!Finance Ministry eases taxation under the old system;tax bureau calculation shows taxable income reduced by 217,000 yuan
Published ・ Source Taiwan | 風傳媒
The Ministry of Finance has eased the old-system method for taxing homes, allowing the acquisition cost of inherited or gifted homes to be adjusted according to the consumer price index. This can lower taxpayers’ property transaction income and, in turn, reduce their income tax burden.
Facts
The Ministry of Finance issued a new interpretive ruling easing taxation under the old system for individuals selling inherited homes, gifted homes or homes gifted by a spouse that are subject to property transaction income tax. The ruling allows the home’s assessed value at the time of acquisition to be adjusted by the consumer price index and recognized as its acquisition cost.
The National Taxation Bureau of the Central Area gave an example:if a home’s assessed value was 1 million yuan when inherited, it could be raised to 1.217 million yuan after adjustment for the price index, reducing the property transaction income at sale by 217,000 yuan.
The new rule covers old-system homes acquired through gifts between spouses. The assessed value can be adjusted according to the consumer price index, based on the value when the spouse originally inherited or received the home as a gift from a third party.
In a tax bureau example, Mr. A inherited a home left by his father in June 2011, when its assessed value was 1 million yuan. He sold it for 3 million yuan in May 2026, and under the new rule the property transaction income is calculated at 1.783 million yuan.
The tax bureau noted that the easing applies only to cases subject to property transaction income tax under the old system. It cannot be applied directly to transactions covered by the new integrated housing and land tax system.

Published ・ Source Taiwan | 風傳媒
The Ministry of Labor issued an explanation on October 30, 2026, clarifying the eligibility age and calculation method for labor insurance old-age pension benefits, as well as the effects of claiming early or late. It emphasized that the statutory age is gradually rising to 65 and used calculations to show the crossover point in cumulative benefits at different claiming ages, helping workers make the best retirement plans.
Facts
The Ministry of Labor reminded the public on October 30, 2026, that the statutory age for claiming labor insurance old-age pension benefits will be adjusted to 65 starting in 2026, but each person's applicable claiming age still depends on their year of birth.
For example, with a basic monthly pension of NT$20,000, claiming early at 60 reduces the monthly payment to NT$16,000, while waiting until 70 increases it to NT$24,000.
Once labor insurance pension benefits are reduced or increased because they were claimed early or late, the adjustment does not change; the original amount is not automatically restored upon reaching the statutory claiming age.
Labor insurance old-age pension benefits are paid for life. In principle, payments continue through the month of the recipient's death, with no limit requiring benefits to stop after a set number of years.

Breaking the traditional link! AI investment boom becomes new force dominating bond markets; Iran war and midterm elections take a back seat
Published ・ Source Taiwan | 鉅亨網
The AI investment boom has prompted tech giants to issue debt on a large scale, bringing the cumulative total to US$271 billion, driving up corporate borrowing costs and breaking the traditional link between U.S. Treasuries and oil prices. The market's focus has shifted to returns on capital spending, with the impact on bond markets now comparable to geopolitical events.
Facts
The AI investment boom is affecting Treasury yields and corporate borrowing costs, with market influence rivaling that of geopolitical conflicts and U.S. midterm elections.
Since the end of October, the traditional co-movement between oil prices and Treasury yields has been broken by the AI narrative.
When tech stocks plunge, money flows into Treasuries and pushes yields down, but borrowing costs for AI-related corporate bonds continue to climb, driving a divergence between Treasuries and tech bonds.
The 5 largest tech companies have issued a cumulative US$271 billion in bonds so far this year.
甲骨文's new 10-year bonds yield about 8%, 微軟's about 5.5%, and Meta's new bonds nearly 6.5%.
景順 said borrowing costs for mega-cap tech companies are generally rising, and investors who bought the bonds early are already sitting on paper losses.
The U.K. investment firm Ruffer said the market is demanding proof that massive capital spending can translate into actual returns.
Foreign investors dump NT$1 trillion! Taiwan stocks plunge in a Double 11 bargain sale; don't just watch 台積電, 鴻海 and 聯發科 when bargain-hunting for AI stocks
Published ・ Source Taiwan | 鉅亨網
摩爾投顧 analyst Chiang Kuo-chung said that although net foreign selling of more than NT$1 trillion has caused sharp swings in Taiwan stocks, 台積電's strong Q3 earnings and tight CoWoS capacity show that AI fundamentals remain intact. He advised investors to seize the low point at a price-to-earnings ratio of 16 times and build positions in subsectors such as CPO and HBM in stages.
Facts
Foreign investors' net selling has exceeded NT$1 trillion, driving Taiwan stocks sharply down from 49,968 points in early October.
台積電 is considering raising prices for its advanced CoWoS packaging by as much as 20%, with lead times extending to about 8 months.
輝達(NVDA-US) has announced that its CPO switches have entered mass production and that it is co-developing the COUPE process with 台積電.
三星, SK海力士 and 美光 will outsource HBM base-die manufacturing to 台積電 for 3-nanometer production.
摩根士丹利 has identified optical interconnects, advanced packaging, memory architecture and power and thermal management as the 4 major technology battlegrounds in AI infrastructure.
Taiwan's weighted index and OTC index both plunged. The weighted index fell below its half-year moving average on heavy volume, while the OTC index lost its annual moving average. Foreign investors posted combined net sales of more than NT$100 billion in the two markets, triggering forced selling in sectors including semiconductor silicon wafers, memory and MLCCs, and fueling market panic.
Facts
The weighted index plunged 1,612.60 points at the close to 43,307.54, with trading value at approximately NT$990.5 billion.
Foreign investors again pulled money out of the weighted index market, with net selling of about NT$107.3 billion.
The OTC index plunged 23.72 points (-6.42%) to close at 345.52, with a gap down on heavy volume below its annual moving average.
The silicon wafer sector fell an average of 9.37%, with 中砂, 環球晶 and 台勝科 nearing the daily limit down.
The memory manufacturing sector fell an average of 9.35%, with 南亞科 and 華邦電 plunging to the daily limit down.
Could U.S.-Canada trade war ease? Carney reveals progress in talks: U.S. “asking for less, offering more”
Published ・ Source Taiwan | 鉅亨網
Canadian Prime Minister Carney confirmed a breakthrough in U.S.-Canada trade talks, saying the U.S. position has softened and some sensitive issues, such as language and cultural protections, have been removed from the negotiations. The two sides are working to repair ties that deteriorated after talks collapsed last August and are exploring a new agreement that includes energy and agricultural tariff relief.
Facts
Canadian Prime Minister Carney said the U.S. stance in bilateral trade talks has shifted, with fewer demands and more concessions offered.
The U.S. and Canada have resumed negotiations, seeking to reach a new trade agreement after earlier talks collapsed.
Carney said some red-line issues, including language, culture, sovereignty and the ability to sign trade agreements, are no longer on the table in negotiations.
The U.S. and Canada came close to reaching an agreement in August this year, but talks fell apart. Each then imposed an additional 50% tariff on some goods from the other.
Trump disclosed that a potential agreement could include the United States obtaining fertilizer tariff-free and Canada funding the construction of a pipeline to transport oil south.
Canadian company South Bow Corp. is involved in the pipeline project and is expected to make a final investment decision next year.
Autos were one of the key obstacles in the previous round of talks, which collapsed. Carney did not disclose specific progress in that area.
