What happens to Air Force One if Songshan Airport moves? Chiang Wan-an cites the U.S. as an example, saying alternatives could be considered
Published ・ Source Taiwan | 風傳媒
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an proposed relocating Songshan Airport to make way for an AI park. On security arrangements for the head of state's aircraft, he suggested studying alternatives based on the U.S. model. He also reiterated his call to restart nuclear power to meet electricity needs.
Facts
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an said in an interview on the 9th that arrangements for the head of state's aircraft after Songshan Airport's relocation could be modeled on the U.S. president's practice of taking a helicopter to Andrews Air Force Base and then transferring to Air Force One. He said an alternative suited to Taiwan could be considered.
The Songshan Airport relocation plan released by the Taipei City Government covers 300 hectares, including a 100-hectare AI industry cluster, 90 hectares of housing and supporting public facilities, and 110 hectares of parks and green space.
Chiang Wan-an reiterated his position that restarting nuclear power should be carefully considered to ensure a stable electricity supply and meet diverse energy needs.
When 輝達 CEO Jensen Huang visited Taiwan, he said the T17 and T18 sites in Beishike would not be sufficient for 輝達's future development needs in Taipei.
Chiang Wan-an said planning for Songshan Airport's relocation should take into account Taiwan's overall industrial development, addressing long-standing traffic problems, and whether lifting height restrictions would be worthwhile.
