Hsu Chao-Chi, a candidate for the city council in Zuoying and Nanzih districts, stated that he primarily uses a motorcycle for daily transportation, frequently traveling through markets, neighborhoods, and alleyways to serve local residents. This allows him to more easily identify safety issues in the road environment that are often overlooked. Recently, he conducted an on-site inspection of the motorcycle lane on Cuihua Road heading toward the World Games Stadium and discovered a potentially dangerous curved section beneath the metro elevated bridge, calling on the city government to promptly improve the area and reduce safety risks for motorcyclists.Hsu pointed out that while the car lane maintains its width, the motorcycle lane suddenly narrows at this section, leaving riders with clearly insufficient space. Additionally, lamppost bases are located immediately adjacent to the travel path, creating a potential collision hazard.Through actual motorcycle testing, he found that riders must deliberately adjust their body angle to pass through safely. In rainy conditions with slippery roads, or if sudden braking or emergency evasion is required by vehicles ahead, riders could easily lose balance and collide with the lamppost base, increasing the likelihood of accidents.On-site observations revealed that many motorcyclists instinctively slow down and carefully avoid the lampposts when passing through this section. Especially during peak commuting hours, riders must simultaneously watch for following traffic and turning vehicles. Despite being only about ten meters long, this stretch has become a daily safety challenge for many commuters.Hsu emphasized that many traffic accidents do not occur at high speeds but rather in such easily overlooked road details. A single rainstorm or emergency maneuver could lead to serious consequences, so preventive measures should be implemented early rather than waiting for accidents to happen before taking corrective action.He recommended that the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau conduct a comprehensive inventory of streetlights, traffic signal poles, and other fixed facilities located alongside motorcycle travel paths. High-risk sections should be prioritized for the installation of protective equipment such as crash cushions and impact attenuators. Additionally, the width of motorcycle lanes should be re-evaluated to ensure compliance with safety standards and prevent fixed infrastructure from encroaching on travel space.He also urged the prioritization of improvements to the motorcycle lane beneath the metro elevated structure on Cuihua Road, and further called for a comprehensive review of similar roads within the Zuoying and Nanzih jurisdictions. A list of high-risk sections should be established, and improvements implemented progressively based on urgency to enhance overall road safety.Hsu stressed that elected representatives must not only supervise municipal affairs but also engage directly with the grassroots and understand the daily living environments citizens face. Having long ridden motorcycles himself, he is better able to empathize with the real needs of motorcyclists. He hopes to continuously identify and address safety details in everyday life, promoting improvement measures that ensure citizens can leave home safely and return home with peace of mind every day.
