Taoyuan, Taiwan — Central News Agency reporter Wu Jui-chi reported from Taoyuan on the 13th that Si Guangyang, son of Kuomintang (KMT) legislator Wan Meiling and candidate for the Taoyuan City Council, announced today that he is withdrawing from the KMT nomination. He stated that to prevent personal incidents from affecting fellow party members and the overall election strategy, he has decided to forgo the KMT nomination and will continue diligently engaging with grassroots communities, humbly reflecting and reviewing his past.In a Facebook post this afternoon, Si Guangyang expressed that since announcing his candidacy, there has been widespread public scrutiny and criticism regarding his student years, with some portraying his past self as an 'irredeemably bad child.' Although certain claims are inconsistent with the facts, he has taken responsibility by apologizing and clarifying, yet regrettably, the attacks have not ceased.Si acknowledged that the stern reprimands from his mother and the strict but well-intentioned guidance from his teachers over past mistakes have deeply saddened and regretted him. He continues to reflect and examine himself thoroughly and expressed gratitude that they did not abandon him during his rebellious and mistaken youth.After graduating from university, he has been engaged in public service for over five years, assisting in nearly 2,000 constituent service cases. For every resident who came forward with concerns, he has made every effort to listen attentively and provide genuine assistance, striving to understand their difficulties with empathy and resolve issues through concrete actions. He has consistently reminded himself to become a more mature and responsible person than he was the day before.To avoid causing difficulties for his party colleagues and superiors, and to prevent any negative impact on the election campaign, he has decided to withdraw from the Chinese Kuomintang nomination. He will continue walking the grassroots, listening to public opinion, and humbly reflecting and reviewing his conduct.Finally, he once again expressed gratitude to every elder, friend, and community member who has cared for, supported, and believed in him throughout this journey. Their encouragement has given him the courage to face all criticism and challenges.
