The county government announced a suspension of work and classes at 2 PM, drawing complaints from many residents that the announcement was too late. According to information from the Pingtung County Government, affected road sections include Shengfeng Road, Gongye Road, in front of Pingtung Senior High School, and roads around Pingtung Hospital on Ziyou Road in Pingtung City; Xiangyang Road, Puzhen Alley, and in front of No. 15 Xiacuo Street in Changzhi Township; in front of No. 673 Zhongshan Road in Linluo Township; P75 Line, Zhicheng Road, Changan Road, and Beiping Road in Chaozhou Township; Weixin Road in front of I-Shou University in Yanpu Township; and Huangjin Road in Jiuru Township.The Pingtung County Government announced at 11 AM today that work and classes would be suspended starting at 2 PM. Many residents flooded Chou Chun-mi's Facebook page with comments stating that the announcement was too late. Some residents pointed out that heavy rain had been falling since midnight and had not subsided during work hours, missing the optimal time for suspension. Commuting to work and then returning home only increased travel risks.Speaking to the media during an inspection, Chou Chun-mi stated that heavy rain had fallen last night and this morning, with rainfall exceeding 350 millimeters in many parts of the county, causing flooding and traffic inconvenience. Considering that heavy rain conditions are still ongoing, the county government decided to suspend work and classes at 2 PM, allowing everyone to return home safely when the water recedes and traffic conditions improve. "We deeply apologize for the great inconvenience caused to everyone."The Pingtung County Government stated that the heavy rainfall has caused flooding in many road sections. The county government is continuously monitoring rainfall and flooding conditions across the county and implementing traffic control and drainage operations based on the situation. In addition to flatland flooding, isolated disaster incidents have been reported in mountainous areas. Due to heavy rain, landslides occurred in Shizi Township, leading to the closure of the main road connecting Nanshi Village and the Jinkalai Industrial Road. Chou Chun-mi has instructed relevant units to continue monitoring mountain roads and slopes and to expedite clearing operations to ensure the safety of residents' travel.On the section of Provincial Highway 1 near the Linluo Township Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market, several cars and motorcycles were submerged and immobile. A car owner surnamed Huang stated that while it rained heavily between 6 AM and 7 AM today, there was no flooding. He parked his car outside his company, but unexpectedly, the water level rose higher, reaching the bottom edge of the car windows. The office was also flooded to ankle height.In areas like Changzhi Township and Neipu Township, water has entered residential homes. A resident in Neipu Township, surnamed Liu, reported that the water in front of his house reached above his ankles. He mentioned that his home had flooded before during typhoons two to three years ago, and he had contacted the township office last week requesting dredging, but no action was taken.
