The asteroid explorer "Hayabusa2#" will conduct a flyby exploration of the asteroid Torifune on July 5, 2026 (Sun)!
A flyby is a method of exploration in which an explorer craft investigates a celestial body while passing close to it.Researchers from the Planetary Exploration Research Center (PERC) at Chiba Institute of Technology, involved in "Hayabusa2#," will explain the mission in an easy-to-understand manner.© Akihiro Ikeshita○ Date and Time: July 26, 2026 (Sun) 15:00 - 16:00 * Before and after the public lecture: 14:00 - 15:00 / 16:00 - 16:30 ◎ Experience the Torifune flyby in VR (for those interested * For safety, 3D video experience is for ages 13 and up; those under 12 will view 2D video) ◎ Photo session wearing an actual mission jacket (for those interested)○ Venue: Chiba Institute of Technology Tokyo Skytree Town® Campushttps://cit-skytree.jp/access/○ Participation Fee: Free○ Capacity: 80 people (first-come, first-served)○ Target Audience: Anyone can participate○ Application: Applications are being accepted on the reservation site https://req.qubo.jp/cit/form/perc20261○ LecturersHironori Chiaki(Vice Director and Chief Researcher, Planetary Exploration Research Center, Chiba Institute of Technology)Responsible for "Hayabusa2" Laser Altimeter (LIDAR), Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3), and Mid-Infrared Camera (TIR)Manabu Yamada(Senior Researcher, Planetary Exploration Research Center, Chiba Institute of Technology)Responsible for "Hayabusa2" Optical Navigation Camera (ONC)Public Lecture SeriesStarting this year, for the next five years, various solar system celestial body exploration missions involving researchers from the Planetary Exploration Research Center (PERC) at Chiba Institute of Technology will reach significant milestones. In conjunction with events related to each exploration, PERC researchers involved in each project will explain the missions in an easy-to-understand manner.* Details such as dates and times will be announced as they are decided.■ Overview of the Planetary Exploration Research Center (PERC), Chiba Institute of Technology ( https://www.perc.it-chiba.ac.jp/ )The Planetary Exploration Research Center (PERC) at Chiba Institute of Technology is a research institution established in 2009 with the aim of clarifying the origin and evolution of solar system celestial bodies by cooperating with planetary exploration plans worldwide. It advocates for the pursuit of astrobiology, the study of the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe, and brings together experts from various fields. While collaborating with JAXA, NASA, ESA, and others, it promotes research and investigation into the formation of planets, the existence of organic matter, and traces of life.
