Central News Agency Report(Taipei, Central News Agency reporter Chen Jung-chen, June 13) The opening press conference for the 2026 National Sports Event 'President's Cup 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament' was held today. This year, new divisions for middle-aged adults and para-athletes (wheelchair basketball) have been added. Fang Jui-wen, Director-General of the National Sports Administration, emphasized encouraging participation across age groups and showcasing Taiwan's culture of sports equality.Organized by the National Sports Administration under the Ministry of Sports, the 2026 President's Cup 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will kick off its preliminary rounds across 22 counties and cities from July 18 to September 27. Spanning over two and a half months, the first events will begin in Yilan County and Keelung City, culminating in the national finals on Ketagalan Boulevard in front of the Presidential Office from October 31 to November 1.Notably, in addition to the existing high school, university, and open divisions, this year's tournament introduces two new categories: the middle-aged division and the para division (wheelchair basketball). Each division is further split into men's and women's categories. The goal is to promote basketball nationwide through collaboration with local governments via the preliminary and national final structure, creating an inclusive platform for public participation.At today's press conference, Director-General Fang Jui-wen stated, 'This year's President's Cup 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament provides diverse participation opportunities for people of different ages and backgrounds, allowing them to experience the joy of sports and demonstrate Taiwan's healthy, vibrant culture of sports equality, inclusivity, and diversity.'Event ambassadors, national women's basketball player Hsu Shih-han and national wheelchair basketball athlete Sun Yu-pin, also attended the event. Hsu encouraged young people to challenge themselves, participate in 3-on-3 basketball, and develop teamwork and healthy exercise habits.
